The perfume with the scent of a woman

In 1954, during an interview, a journalist asked Marilyn Monroe what she wore to sleep, the actress answered naively: "some drops of "N 5". Without wanting it, the declaration of Marilyn made a superb slogan.
Today in 2012, Chanel No 5 is still one of the world's best-selling fragrances, with a turnover of around ten million bottles per year. This lucky number is an identity for thousands of women around the world.
Abandoned by her parents and brought up in an orphanage, Gabrielle Coco Chanel went on to build, arguably, the world's most famous fashion house. She designed the world's most celebrated perfume, famously worn by Marilyn Monroe and the little pink suit worn by Jackie Kennedy on the day her President husband was assassinated.
She invented those prerequisites of modern style: costume jewellery, the Little Black Dress, the shoulder bag and even the suntan. The first of the must-have designers, she has also had the most staying power. She dressed the aristocracy in the 1950s.
And now, almost 45 years after her death, queues of women still wrap round the streets by her worldwide franchises, waiting to snap up her signature quilted handbags, chain belts and two-tone shoes. She is Gabrielle Chanel, better known as Coco, and she had the most fertile imagination ever to inhabit the world of fashion. Her rags-to-riches story has it all: glamour, money, aristocratic suitors, even a treacherous liaison with a German Nazi officer in occupied Paris.

She chooses the sample n° 5.
With the question "which name you will give it?", she answer: "I launch my collection on May 5, fifth month of the year, leave it to it number which it carries and this number 5 will carry chance to it". Chanel later said, "It was what I was waiting for. A perfume like nothing else, “A woman's perfume, with the scent of a woman." The scent, imbued with jasmine, rose, sandalwood and vanilla, was an instant success.
Coco, one of the most beautiful girls in France, even today, you can still see her famous entwined CC logo painted in gold on the lampposts of the current Duke's estate in Mayfair, London, in memory of her legendary romance with his besotted predecessor.
